Er wurde am 26. Februar 1895 in Wien geboren. Er studierte Medizin an der Wiener Universit\u00e4t. Nach seiner Promotion arbeitete er an der Universit\u00e4tsklinik f\u00fcr Psychiatrie und Neurologie in Wien und leitete dort die psychiatrisch-neurologische Filialstation.<br \/>\nEiner seiner Lehrer war der Nobelpreistr\u00e4ger Professor Wagner-Jauregg, der aus der Schule Alfred Adlers kam, des Begr\u00fcnders der Individualpsychologie.<br \/>\nDr. Nowotny ist auf dem Gebiet der Individualpsychologie sehr bekannt geworden. Er war Mitbegr\u00fcnder der internationalen Vereinigung f\u00fcr individual-Psychologie und jahrelang im Vorstand der \u00d6sterreichischen Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Psychische Hygiene t\u00e4tig.<br \/>\nNach dem Kriegsende 1945 \u00fcbernahm er die Leitung der Wiener st\u00e4dtischen Nervenheilanstalt Maria Theresien Schl\u00f6\u00dfl, die er bis zu seiner Pensionierung innehatte. Zahlreiche Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten aus Kunst und Politik z\u00e4hlten zu seinem Patientenkreis.<br \/>\nAn der Universit\u00e4t war er Privatdozent f\u00fcr Psychiatrie und Neurologie habilitiert.Zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, insbesondere auch auf dem Gebiet der Individual-Psychologie wurden im Lauf der Jahre ver\u00f6ffentlicht.<br \/>\n1960 erhielt er aufgrund seiner hervorragenden Leistungen das goldene Ehrenzeichen f\u00fcr Verdienste um die Republik \u00d6sterreich.<br \/>\nAm 18.
